Hey! I finally got around to putting List 15 and Everydaypants #2 on-line for sale. I mean, right here.
List 15 is $4. This issue is about moving to a new city to try to move on from a past relationship and to try to find a place that feels like home. It's about new figuring myself out, saying goodbye to the past, and opening new chapters. Some list samples are: big plans, things i miss/don't miss about chicago, being a confident introvert, adventures in dating, all the things that have happened since list 14, traits i admire in other people, how i ended up in a relationship, the things i think are most important, places i've been and what i remember about them, and many more!
 ( preview pages )
Everydaypants #2 is $3. I drew all of these comics throughout the year 2011, for various things, and wanted to see them all in one place and in print! This includes a selection of pages from a 115 page, long-term comic series I've been working on about my first year in Philadelphia (to be printed at the end of 2012). Everydaypants #2 is filled with short comics about music, diy, nannying, and moving to a new city. This is 24 pages, black and white, and saddle stitched!
 ( preview pages )
If you wanna order one, you can paypal monies to everydaypants@gmail.com or send me an ASK if you want to order through the mail, and I'll give you my address. Non-creepers only, thanks.
It's also for sale on my etsy, but if you wanna just buy through me directly it saves me dumb etsy fees and I won't charge for shipping. How about that?
If you prefer etsy, however, my etsy shop is at http://everydaypants.etsy.com

11:05 am - Queerios: A Radical Queer Coloring and Activity Book
|

piratesarah
|
This will be the kind of activity book I never got (but always wanted) in my early teens. I'd like to put together a coloring and activity book highlighting people who were groundbreaking to you, personally. Harvey Milk and Oscar Wilde will always have a place carved out for them. This is about exploring people who did more than admit their same-sex attraction to the rest of the world. How about what Leslie Feinberg and Kate Borenstein did for trans visability and challenging gender norms? Or how James baldwin and Audre Lorde made queer people challenge racism within the GLBT community. And, just so we're clear? You don't have to identify as queer/trans to have a hero who does. Priority will be given to activities like dot-to-dots, paper dolls, and word searches, but coloring pages with biographies are great as well. The deadline for this is March 1st so I can have it put together by mid-to-late march, and out in the world by April. And of course, if you know someone who is interested, please feel free to pass this on to them, or repost widely. Please send pdfs of high resolution jpegs to piratesarah@gmail.com

7:53 pm - Call for Submissions - Once Upon A Distro
|

piratesarah
|
I've been making zines since I was 15 - more than half of my life. At various points, zines have been a way for me to connect to communities that I didn't have access to, as well as being an important place for me to write about the stuff going on in my life. I've always written zines. I've always read zines. I've always wanted to do more. So, now I am. Once Upon a Distro is open for submissions starting now, and will be open for purchases and things starting in January of 2012. What I'm looking for right now are personal zines, particularly those by women, people of color, and GLBTQ folks. I'm not opposed to spoken word titles and crafts, but those will not be my priority. Please feel free to mail your zine for submission to: Sarah Rose 201 W. Evergreen Ave #1012, Philadelphia, PA 19118 or email with questions: piratesarah@gmail.com (www.onceuponadistro.com) (Sorry for all the cross posts!)

11:16 am - Hot Tea, Cold Water #3: last letters of the alphabet issue!
|

laughing_anima
|
It's not too late to jump on the alphabet train and be part of this project! The following letters are still available as of this writing:
F, I, N, U, W
This zine is very open-ended, in terms of content and media. For instance, if you took the letter F, you could write an essay about fat activism or feminism, write a story or comic that takes place in France, make a painting of a flea, or give a recipe for flour tortillas. I would stick to five pages or under, but longer works are definitely not ruled out.
To see the most up-to-date list of available letters and check out what topics people are picking so far, head over here!

10:24 am - Call for submissions: Absent Cause #5 – Dangerous Gifts

Call for submissions: Absent Cause #5 – Dangerous Gifts
Absent Cause zine was established in 2008 as a venue for people from myriad cultures and selves, pushed to the outskirts and into the underground, to find each other, draw connections between their experiences, and gain strength for their struggles.
The term “Dangerous Gifts” is usually associated with the special contributions of people with mental illness / variance. But there are many kinds of dangerous gifts we experience and share: the person who chooses to wear a veil as an expression of culture or religion; gender or gender-less expression outside the male-female binary; being a fat person, a hairy grrrl, or having other physical characteristics outside mainstream acceptance; existing as a survivor in a social system that celebrates abuse and war; the choice to confront capitalism, racism, patriarchy and heteronormativity in a culture of submission; and so much more.
Absent Cause is seeking submissions on your experience of “Dangerous Gifts” for the forthcoming issue. Artwork, comix, photography, essays, poems, and SHORT fiction are welcome.
The deadline for submissions is Friday, September 30, 2011.
Explore the dark side with Absent Cause: Underground cultures and hidden histories; feminist, gender-variant and queer sexualities, chosen families and radical politics; vampirism, the gothic, horror and the macabre; surviving abuse, coping with mental illness/dangerous gifts, self-harm and suicide.

12:55 pm - Veganistan: the zine
|

terrorgore
|
Veganistan is a zine of Middle East & Maghrebi vegan recipes. It's also an attempt to smash popular misconceptions that you can’t be a healthy, happy, belly-rubbin vegan in the Mid East. Follow a kaleidescopic 40 page journey through soups, dips, breads, spice blends, salads, falafels, pastries, grains, stuffed stuff & sweet things & feast til ya can't stands no more.
All the ca$h raised from the zine goes to Vafa Animal Shelter in Hashtgerd, Iran. "Vafa" means "loyalty" in Farsi. The shelter was founded in 2003 by Fatemeh Motamedi, who donated her own land and funds to see the shelter’s creation. Today Vafa’s volunteers care for over 400 dogs & depend on donations to keep the project running. You can find out more about it here, & keep an eye out for the soon to exist non-recipe zine All My Friends Are Mountains, where I interview them :)

( one more picture under the cut )
I'm putting the suggested price for the zine at two bucks fifty ($2.50). But if you feel super keen on Vafa & the work they are doing, you are welcome to pay however much you feel good about paying for the zine, because ALL money raised, aside from printing costs, from it goes to the organisation. I copy the zine at a local printing collective, so each zine costs approximately 0.20c to make - so whether you want to pay more, or can only afford 2.50, the vast majority goes to Vafa. If 2.50 is too expensive for you too, that's OK! If fifty cents is what you can afford, of course that's fine too.
If you're in Europe, postage is $2, & if you're in the Americas, Oceania, Asia-Pacific, the Mid East, or anywhere else, postage is $3. Sorry that there is no global mailing collective to keep costs lower on that. :)
Edit: now with payment info - sorry! My Paypal is projectbridget@hotmail.com. If you don't have one of them, write me at projectbridget@gmail.com & we can figure something else out.
Cheers! Happy eating.

4:19 pm - Hot Tea, Cold Water #3: Open Call for Entries!
|

laughing_anima
|

Our theme this time: an (English) alphabet. There will be 26 contributors, with each making a comic, work of art, poem, short story, article, or how to that is in some way related to the letter. This could be about an issue you are passionate; something you just like to look at what the letter reminds you of, etc. It could be as loosely related as the first letter of the main character’s name, or as closely related as you want.
More info is in THIS POST on my journal, where you can see what letters are left to grab!

Clearing out my workspace! I'm taking tiny steps towards the zen path and that means parting with things, which really bums me out because I really like my zine collection. However, it's for the best and it's good to recycle zines into the world and make a couple bucks.

15 Half Sized Zines includes: personal, art, anarcho, comix and even guinea pig zines! This is probably worth 25-30 bucks! Some awesome titles are Erik and Laura-Marie Magazine #44, Dreams of Donuts #1, Buttersword, Me & You Zine, and more. Seven bucks plus shipping.
10 Quarter Sized Zines includes: art, personal, informational, poetry, and mini zines. This is probably worth about 20 bucks! There is more than 10 zines, but I grouped some of the shorter zines into one to be representative of the zine quantity. A truly wide variety of topics and lovely minds. I will miss them dearly, but I usually tend to read zines once anyways.

Email me at kathytran at volthair dot com if you have any questions at all. You can also paypal me or mail cash. Just let me know what works best for you ^__^

3:00 pm - Palestine zine raising cash for journey to Iraq.
|

terrorgore
|
Ahoy zinesters!

here be issue #2 of my Palestine zine, Trees Die Standing. I'm hoping to raise some cash from this new installation of what is clearly extra prolonged recovery from the Holy Land, for my immediately impending cross-continent journey to Iraqi Kurdistan for an unpaid internship with Nature Iraq (I'm leaving tonight & may or may not have enough cash to make it across the relatively safe enclave of Iraqi Kurdistan to Sulaymaniyah without passing through Mosul & Kirkuk. Motherfucking disorganisation!!! Yeah!!)
The zine: In traumafest 2.0 I subject you to the chronicles of my nine months in the West Bank working with the International Solidarity Movement, a non-violent direct action group working with Palestnians to resist the Israeli occupation. From August '09 to May '10 I accompanied farmers to their fields, went to weekly demonstrations, chased gun-toting settlers through olive fields with a camera, visited hospitals, interviewed dozens of people, wrote millions of reports & slept on the street with evicted families.
I also learnt Arabic, went to university, fell in to the dubious world of English-teaching, went to a lot of hip hop shows, made hundreds of new & blisteringly awesome friends, ate falafel with reckless abandon, attended weddings & funerals, slept with wildly inappropriate people, got kidnapped, went to prison, went underground & ended up leaving the country when I broke my bail conditions to hide out in a bewitching city I was in love with but banned from (sob! egads!) & got found out by the Israeli secret service.
The zine is made up of things I journalled/blogged/wrote to people during these nine months, about the joyous & terrible things I saw, found & felt there. My goal was only to try & cut/paste something of the emotion I didn't even know I was capable of, that I was captive to in Palestine.
( see inside it )
It's loooong (68 pages). I never know how much money to ask for. Three or four bucks plus postage at least would be awesome, to cover printing costs (did I mention it's long)? & oh, the journey to Iraq thing. Every dinar helps! My paypal is projectbridget@hotmail.com
